Hello readers! We started this week strong by learning about a unique insect seen in the Philippines, and doing an interesting art activity after! Today’s spotlight falls on the Atlas Moth, or as it is known in the Philippines, the “Mariposa”. It is a flying insect that may look like a butterfly at first, but is actually a giant moth! This explains its name in the Philippines, Mariposa, which is Spanish for “butterfly”.
After that we tried Salt Painting. The kids traced a Mariposa on their colored paper, filled the pattern with glue, poured lots of salt on top, and then painted it using watercolors! The tiny spaces between the salt and the glue made the watercolor spread. The kids showed their creativity and used different color combinations!
